Not only is the cost important for budget control but also they want to know that no outside medication is making it in without their knowledge. Tight control of medication is necessary to make sure the patients only are taking what the doctor ordered.
Here are a few reasons :-When granny pops off and the relatives start asking difficult questions, records are the only way to prove it wasn't you that over did the morphine ...Same when the local Police call in to find out who's been selling the stuff in the Pub across the road ...And (of course) when the NHS Auditors drop by to ask where all the monies gone ...
